Shiver 2012 - REVEW

$

Recently I saw a preview for a movie called Shiver before I watched Camp Dread.  It looked interesting to say the least.  A couple horror veterans in the cast and what seemed to be a pretty solid story to boot.  The only thing i feared before watching was the boast of big stars in an indie movie meant they would make a brief cameo appearance and to try and trick the buying public that their favorite stars are the main stars of the film.  I rant about this a bit because it pisses me off but the stars listed on the box are actually the stars in this Indie horror film.

Wendy Alden (Danielle Harris) works her meaningless assistant job behind a desk everyday and can't bring herself to ask for a promotion and a raise.  Always coming up short on money she constantly has to borrow money from her bully of a Mother (Valerie Harper).  Wendy has no self confidence what so ever and this leaves her easy prey for a serial Killer on the loose, Franklin Rood (John Jarrat).  Franklin terrorizing the women he chooses for his killings and making them seem worthless before he mutilates them.  Will Wendy find the strength in herself to escape her killers grasp?

Regardless of the cast in this film, which i loved, I really did not hold high expectations for this movie and really only took a chance on it because it was super cheap on DVD.  I was pleasantly surprised with this film and the thing that most attracted me to it, the cast, was awesome.  One of Danielle's best performances in my opinion.  She really nails it.  Especially with a role you don't generally see Danielle in.

There are quite a few Wolf Creek fans out there that love John Jarrat, I am not one of them.  I absolutely hated Wolf Creek and thought it was boring as shit.  Having said that  I loved the performance of John Jarrat in this film as the killer.  He plays this part perfectly and a big 2 thumbs up for him.  The other notable in this one was Rae Dawn Chong.  She does not have a huge role but a good supporting one.  I have not seen her in a movie or TV for a long time it was nice to see her in this Indie film.  It doesn't look like she has aged a bit either.

I really enjoyed this movie from start to finish.  It keeps the audience involved throughout the whole movie with rarely a dull moment.  I recommend picking this one up.  I found it on Amazon.com for merely $6.99 and is well worth it.  I would rate this one 7 out of 10 stars.  As always stay twisted everyone!

All Cheerleaders Die 2013 - REVIEW

$
0
0

All Cheerleaders Die was just released today  on DVD and Blu Ray but this has been available for viewing on streaming services for the past couple weeks.  I have heard some buzz about this one over the past month and couldn't wait to check it out.  It wasn't until I did a little research on it that I read that this is a remake of the 2001 movie titled All Cheerleaders Die.  I had no idea that this was a remake.  The most strange part about it too is that the people who remade it are the same who made the original.  How often does that happen??

Maddy (Caitlin Stasey) is devastated by the death of the head cheerleader die right in front of her while she was filming.  She wants to be the one to fill the spot on the cheer leading team and is not accepted at first but that changes quickly.  Maddy has fit in quite nicely and it is just a couple days before their senior year starts.  This is going to be one year none of them will soon forget!!

I realize I left my synopsis to your imagination.  I was so surprised by how this movie turned out I thought I would leave anyone who reads this review feeling a little of the same way.  By just the title of the film I knew this was going to fun but it really was a lot more fun than I anticipated.  It is tagged as a horror comedy and while it does have a few laughs here and there I did not think it was enough to added comedy to the genre.  That is just my opinion though.

What I liked most about  this film is the story.  I haven't seen the original but I can say that this one is original, well original as you can get in Hollywood anymore.  The cast was comprised of all young actors and actresses and I really thought they all did a good job.  The lead Caitlin Stasey really stood out and if I hadn't read it on IMDB I would have never guessed she was from Australia.  Hides that accent well.

I really did love this movie.  There isn't anything bad I really can say about it.  Never a dull moment and there wasn't anytime I got bored with it at all.  That is always a good thing.  I would rate this 6 out of 10 stars.  Definitely one you want to put on your watch list.  Stay twisted everyone!

I anticipate seeing great things from them in future and can’t wait to work with them again.” Maria Olsen, Producer, MOnsterworks66

On the ride up, Seth suspiciously proclaims that his mother has died from unknown causes but he conveniently left out the part where he is being haunted by increasingly disturbing visions of her. On arrival, the four friends start to lash out at each other and end up only driving themselves further apart as a destructive cult hell-bent on resurrecting an ancient cosmic god emerges to torment them.

Top 5 Horror Films of 1985

$

We continue with our list of the top horror films of 1985.  Before I sat down and wrote this I was thinking what movies I would include and did not think I could fill 5 slots.  I am able to do that but 1985 wasn't a great year for horror.  While there were some standout films there was nothing huge like in the early 80s.  The slasher craze was fizzling out and one horror franchise was taking a dangerous turn that would be a success or total failure.

This film is really a goofy zombie flick but it is one hell of a fun film.  It has a great cast includingJames Karen, Clu Gulager, Thom Matthews and Linnea Quigley. With a cast like that how could you not love it ?

This installment of Friday often splits the fans right down the middle.  I have heard people say it was the worst and people say it was the best.  I don't think it is either best or worst but I do love this film.  It's true that Jason really isn't Jason and the cast isn't as likable as other installments but still a good slasher.

I actually did not see Fright Night till probably 2 years ago after I heard what a great film it was.  I have to agree it really is a great film.  A fun cast and Chris Sarandon plays an excellent vampire.

The first horror convention I ever went to was a Re-Animator reunion and I had never seen the movie before so I really wasn't interested in it.  A few weeks later I purchased the film and gave it a watch and it quickly became one of my frequent watches.  Unlike an zombie flick you have ever seen.

This is another one that has fans of a franchise split down the middle.  I think this movie was great.  It is not my favorite in the series but it really is a fun movie.  This was before Freddy talked alot, and had funny taglines.  Freddy was just creepy as fuck and loved to terrorize people.  Also look at the artwork for this cover.  What happened to movie poster artwork like this?

Production Begins on Herschell Gordon Lewis's BloodMania

Monday, August 4th, 2014 - Production begins today on a new major horror movie, entitled “Herschell Gordon Lewis’s BloodMania.” Acclaimed horror genre director Herschell Gordon Lewis will co-direct the project, which is being produced by HGB Entertainment Ltd. for Diabolique Films, the film division of the premiere horror publication, Diabolique Magazine. Mr. Lewis is internationally recognized as the originator of the contemporary splatter film, and he chuckles at being dubbed “The Godfather of Gore."

The Producer of the film is Diabolique Films executive James Saito, and the film is being shot in its entirety in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Lewis explained his “co-director” role, an unusual relationship with the production company: “BloodMania is a series of four episodes, each one unique. I’ll personally direct two, and Benjamin Ross Hayden (Agophobia, 2013) and Kevin Littlelight the others. So I can promise a variety of ‘flavors to satisfy even the most ardent horror fans!’”

Asked whether “BloodMania” will be a step beyond any film either he or anyone has directed before, the answer was as expected from this maverick director: “What do you think?” A major factor contributing to his reputation in the film industry is Herschell Gordon Lewis’s insistence on never repeating a theme. “BloodMania” he promises, will set a new standard for, as he so eloquently puts it, “off-the-wall outrage, doused in a wild sense of humor!”

Producer James Saito has assembled a cast of well-known Canadian actors and actresses, as well as crew highly skilled in special effects. “Enthusiasm is extraordinarily high,” he reports, “and much of that enthusiasm is the happy anticipation that our effects team will have the opportunity to participate in a motion picture whose potential is truly world-class. BloodMania is our gift to Mr. Lewis’ many fans and all fans of the horror genre.”

"Gory Graduation" to Begin Production in 2015

$
0
0

Way back when, say the late `90s or the early stages of the 21st
century, the IMDb was an unreliable film narrator of sorts; even moreso
than it is today (thankfully, the IMDb has tightened ship, as it were,
on user submissions). One such piece of film history that only true
die-hards of the slasher movie sub-genre may know about or, even
remember, is a little movie called Gory Graduation.

Starring Lesleh Donaldson (Curtains, Happy Birthday To Me) and a few
other memorable scream queens from the early `80s, a plot description
was non-existent as was any crew information. The film languished in
obscurity. So obscure was it, actually, that it never really existed.

Until now.

“I can remember spending years searching for any information on this
elusive title, being then as much of a slasher completist as I am today
and getting absolutely nowhere,” remarks Joseph Henson, director of Gory
Graduation. “I thought to myself, here is a film, with such a
provocative title, that NEEDS to be made.”

Of course, through the advent of social media, enough information was
finally unearthed to determine the film was nothing more than a fake
title stirred up by someone who, like Henson, probably wanted to make it
but never did. The title was eventually removed from the IMDb and that
was that. But boy, if you were active during the golden years of the
alt.horror newsgroup or the birth of now-infamous horror sites, you
remember the stir that was caused by this elusive title that was nothing
more than fakery.

Of course, Henson and cohort Nathan Johnson (who co-wrote and
co-directed The Night Before Easter with Henson) would promise
themselves time and time again they’d eventually make their very own
slasher one day (they are two of the biggest fans of the sub-genre
possible, even being half of the wildly popular all-slasher podcast, The
Hysteria Continues) even though they knew next to nothing about actual
film making. They finally got their chance to make their own slasher
with The Night Before Easter (2014), an exceptionally low-budget effort
shot on a Canon T3i with little else in the way of equipment or budget.
“The Night Before Easter, as clunky as it is, was a massive learning
experience for us. Since wrapping that movie, I’ve spent hours upon
hours, days upon days, and weeks turning into months soaking up
knowledge on film making. How to stage scenes, internal camera settings,
sound design, et al. We couldn’t afford to do a lot of things on The
Night Before Easter but we plan to take what we’ve learned from that
experience, on top of a much higher budget (a five figure budget we are
working on raising) and going from clunk to spunk, as it were,” notes
Henson.

“I’m proud of The Night Before Easter all things considered,” says
Henson, “…but with Gory Graduation, we really want to up the stakes
internally and externally – if The Night Before Easter was sub-Roger
Corman, we hope Gory Graduation will be sub-Argento in style, fluidity
and consistency.”

The plot concerns a graduation ceremony that becomes the stomping
grounds for a killer decked out in ceremonial robes. It is, at its core,
a no-nonsense slasher film with a massive bodycount and lots of gore,
nudity and, above all, likable characters.

Gory Graduation is currently being casted and Henson and Johnson are, on
top of scripting, raising a budget to purchase more equipment and to
hire a much larger cast/crew (including a few known names with whom
negotiations are underway).

“I feel that The Night Before Easter was a trial run, a get your feet
wet sort of thing. I had a rudimentary knowledge of editing and went in
knowing nothing else. Nathan and I were essentially two guys throwing
something together with little money and very few resources, but all
things considered, we think we made… Something. With Gory Graduation,
we’re going to erase the mistakes we made and triple the stuff that
worked,” Henson concludes.

You can follow Gory Graduation on Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/Gory.Graduation and on Twitter:
https://twitter.com/GoryGraduation

The film is slated to begin production in 2015 and will see a release in
2016.

Top 5 Horror Films of 1986

$

We are now entering the late 80's which just so happens to be one of my favorite.  1986 is where the slasher films are starting to make a small comeback, and Jason returns from the dead for the first time.  This is also the year that holds my favorite horror movie of all time.

April Fools Day is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.  I just watched it this past Sunday as a matter of fact.  Not meant to be scary or even taken seriously just a great dark comedy with a fantastic cast.  Including former Friday the 13th alum Amy Steel.

There are probably alot of people who are not going to agree with this pick but I really do love this movie.  He may have been one of the hardest actors to work with on this film but Klaus Kinski is brilliant as tenant landlord and former MD Karl Gunther.

I just saw this movie not too long ago but it has easily become on of my favorite movies to watch.  The fun factor in this movie is through the roof and probably my favorite movie that starsTom "Thrill Me" Adkins

This year has been a big year for Blu Ray releases thanks to Scream Factory.  Finally getting the blu ray treatment it deserves.  Tawny Kitaen really is a horrible actress but it doesn't take away from the greatness that is Witchboard.  The sequel Witchboard 2 also got a Blu Ray release this year but we will be talking about this one in the 90's.

Here is it my favorite movie of all time Friday the 13th Part VI.  I could not get enough of this movie when I was younger and that hasn't changed over the years.  The first film when Jason actually raises from the dead and becomes a zombie.  The mixture of Jason and dark humor in this film made it great.

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 12, 2014) Al Bravo Studios and Chemical Mind Studios have partnered to give horror fans a new thrill with their haunting new film 2 BEDROOM 1 BATH, coming to theaters on Friday, September 5th. Starring Michelle Hicks (Mullholland Drive, "The Shield") and Andrew W. Walker (Steel Toes, Against the Wall), 2 BEDROOM 1 BATH is the chilling tale of a couple whose seemingly perfect dream home quickly becomes their nightmare.

This psychological thriller comes from the new voice in horror, Writer/Director Stanley Yung, Producer Al Bravo (The Chicago 8, The Wailer), and the independent studio that brought audiences the cult horror film The Wailer (La Llorona). As one of Hollywood's most promising independent producers, Al Bravo creates films that explore a variety of genres, describing his approach as "American with a Latino touch." His studio's latest feature-length effort, 2 BEDROOM 1 BATH,
/will have a limited theatrical release in Los Angeles.

The film follows Rachel (Michelle Hicks) and Kevin Foster (Andrew W. Walker), a couple who have finally found the ideal apartment where they can build a future and raise their children. It's a fresh start for their sometimes troubled marriage, but as they begin to settle into their new home, their plans are quickly interrupted. Strange occurrences in the apartment begin to invade Kevin's dreams and challenge Rachel's sanity. The hauntings are so terrorizing that Kevin is forced to delve into the history of their new home and he uncovers a shocking past that threatens to destroy his and Rachel's future.

Co-starring Eric Roberts (The Expendables, The Dark Knight), Costas Mandylor (Saw series), and Dee Wallace (The Howling, E.T.), this ghostly tale shows that there is no turning back once you unleash the evils of the past. In 2 BEDROOM 1 BATH, a young couple's dream of "happily-ever-after" turns into a horrifying nightmare.

Based off the 2001 novel by Jane Mendelsohn, INNOCENCE tells the story of Beckett Warner, a teenager dealing with the recent death of her mother. Yet, once she moves to Manhattan to put her life back together and begin a new school, Beckett realizes that her troubles may be far worse—her school is run by a coven of beautiful and seductive women who perpetuate their youth by drinking the blood of virgins.

Starring Kelly Reilly (Heaven Is for Real, Sherlock Holmes), Sophie Curtis, and Graham Phillips, INNOCENCE will be in theaters SEPTEMBER 5th.

SYNOPSIS: Haunted by the death and dreams of her beloved mother in a Montauk surfing accident, 16 year old Beckett and her father, novelist Miles Warner, move to Manhattan and attempt to piece together their shattered life. The discovery that her new school may be run by a coven of beautiful and seductive women who perpetuate their youth by drinking the blood of virgins becomes the ultimate challenge of Beckett and Tobey's young lives.
